The dream house on a cliff by the sea

The house that was built in 2018 is located on a cliff just a few meters above sea level and the water. The changes in the weather, the reflections of the sunlight in the water, the endlessly varying colors of the sea and sky are constantly strongly present.

Eva says, When we had the opportunity to build our house on a cliff on Tjörn, right by the sea, we were determined from the very beginning that the house with its color scheme would as well as possible blend into the natural surroundings. Be one with the gray granite. A house in such a location will always be very exposed to sun, wind and water. Therefore, we were also looking for something that could withstand the strain of the weather, without constant repainting. The pine tar vitriol felt just right when we found it.

– We knew what shade we wanted for the house for it to blend in with the rocks. At the same time, we wanted a color that emphasizes the beautiful structure of the wood and also requires a minimum of maintenance. We visited many paint dealers to find what we were looking for. At one of them we got the tip about pine tar vitriol, which until then was unknown to us.

While the house was being built, they spent several weekends painting the facade boards for the first time. During the winter, these were kept inside the then unfinished guest house under the garage. Later in the spring, all painting equipment was moved outside to the turning area in front of the house.

– We got many questions about what color we were using because it smelled so good of tar. When the facade boards were nailed up, we walked around the house on the scaffolding and painted a second time. The most exposed sides to the south, we are considering painting once more, now that the house has stood for a few years.

Eva goes on to say, We have only received positive comments about our house and our choice of color. Especially about how beautifully it fits in on our cliff facing the sea. Many people on a walk past our house have opened their eyes to pine tar vitriol during the period when we were building and painting actively; later, it has occurred that people have rung the doorbell and asked about what color we have painted the house with.

What are you the most happy with?
– The whole thing turned out fantastically well. For a wonderful house in a unique location, we have found a color that corresponds to our own and to the location’s high requirements.

– What three arguments would you say to someone else who is considering painting with pine tar vitriol?
1. The color is beautiful and preserves the living feel of the wooden facade.
2. With the natural wood protection that comes with tar, the intervals between repainting become long, much appreciated by us who want to age with our house.
3. Pine Tar Vitriol is easy to use.
